The UCSF Teen Wellness Connection Program (TWC) is a dynamic 9-month program that's part of the Science & Health Education Partnership at UCSF, dedicated to informing and empowering teen leaders to speak on teen health issues. Since March 2023, we’ve proudly collaborated on four impactful programs. For the past two years, we’ve had the privilege of being one of their presenters at their annual Teen Wellness Summit- a free event organized by their junior and senior high school students for 9th-12th graders in the San Francisco Unified District. The summit offers a series of workshops and presentations designated to create a safe space where teens can connect and engage on important topics like mental health.
Every TWC program thrives on the principles of mutualism and reciprocity, and our July 31st gathering was no exception! With the participation of 25 students and 2 UCSF staff members, the Sutro Stewards team was truly impressed by the group's enthusiasm and active engagement in both group discussions and weed removal activities. The day was filled with meaningful moments, from enjoying a delicious shared lunch to practicing mindful breathing, stewardship of the land in our plant nursery’s rain garden, and sipping freshly brewed tea made from native plants like Hummingbird Sage and Yerba Buena.
We look forward to welcoming them back in the future!
I love how the event blended hands-on activities like weed removal with mindfulness practices and community bonding over shared meals. It's so refreshing to see such a strong sense of mutualism and reciprocity in action. The idea of brewing tea from native plants like Hummingbird Sage and Yerba Buena is such a unique touch—it must have been a really special moment for everyone involved. pizza tower
