Wormwoods

By: Jessie Liang

Wormwoods are native to Europe and parts of Africa but it has become naturalized in the US and Canada. However, Wormwood is a type of herb and they are used for solving various digestive problems, such as loss of appetite, upset stomach, gall bladder disease, and intestinal spasms. This is also good for treating fever as well. But most people will use this plant to prevent mosquitoes. They usually create a smell that helps people to relax. I highly suggested that if you ever have a chance to meet this plant you might want to smell it, it’s nice. But keep in mind that some people might get allergies if they are allergic to the Asteraceae/Compositae family. Fun facts: In Chinese traditional people usually hang Wormwoods outside their front door. Because wormwood is believed to be effective in preventing diseases and driving away evil spirits. Ways to plant Wormwoods:

  • ● Place it in sunny or partial shadows locations

  • ● Prepared a garden with well-drained soil (but not too much)

  • ● Remember to plant it in Spring

  • ● If you want to harvest your plant, you need to wait about 2 years because the leaves are stronger than the first year Then you are well prepared!!! :)
