Bioblitz on Mount Sutro
Discover nature on Mount Sutro! Join Sutro Stewards, California Academy of Sciences, and the Golden Gate Audubon Society for a bioblitz during the City Nature Challenge.
Bioblitz on Mount Sutro Sunday, April 28 | 9 AM - 1 PM
We'll split up into groups to walk the trails and take a closer look at the world around us. Become a citizen scientist and find beautiful flowers, spot tiny mushrooms, uncover insects, see birds hiding in the shrubs, and feel textured mosses. What will you discover?
All ages and skill levels welcome. All you need is curiosity and observation to help catalogue all sorts of species you'll encounter. A smartphone with the iNaturalist app is how we record observations.
Birders are meeting at 8:30, a half hour early, in the Woods Lot (100 Medical Center Way). Register for the "Early Bird" RSVP if you want to be in this group.
Please register here > for a free ticket to let us know you're coming. Meeting location and other details will be sent to registered participants, including directions and parking information. We hope to see you there to uncover the amazing biodiversity of Mount Sutro!
The City Nature Challenge is organized by the California Academy of Sciences and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. Learn more about the City Nature Challenge: citynaturechallenge.org
What's a Bioblitz? Bioblitzes are gatherings of scientists, citizen scientists, land managers, and more, all working together to find and identify as many different species as possible. Bioblitzes not only help land managers build a species list and atlas for their park and provide invaluable data for researchers, they also highlight the incredible biodiversity in these Bay Area oases.
Our bioblitzes are open to anyone and are family-friendly. Just bring your smartphone with the iNaturalist app, your curiosity, and your powers of observation to help catalog the natural wonders of our parks and open spaces.
